Love, song, and laughter have come to the yurt of the old shepherd with the arrival of the daughter-in-law, changing the monotonous family life. The in-laws, as well as the younger brother Kairken are pleased with Saltanat, but the new husband Tastan looks at his young wife as a necessary, usual object in the house. Everybody suffers from his callousness and sharpness. He realises his injustice only when Saltanat falls seriously ill.
